Try Making a Healthy Hummus Recipe!

Categorized: Uncategorized | 38 comments

Have you ever tried hummus? This dip that originated in the Middle East is becoming very popular with people making an effort to eat healthy. Most hummus recipes call for either chick peas or garbanzo beans which are one in the same. Another popular option is black bean hummus.

If you were to try hummus at several different Middle Eastern restaurants, you would find that each one was unique. One of the greatest things about hummus is that you can customize it to suit your needs. Don’t care for garbanzo beans? Just use black beans instead. One of the best parts of making this dip at home is that you can create a dish that suits your own taste buds. And of course, by making hummus at home you almost always create a low fat hummus dish!

There are so many different great hummus recipes out there! You should never be afraid to try new ones! I tried one recently that called for Greek Yogurt, which was something that I had never had in hummus before. I am happy to say that it really added a nice rich creaminess to the dip. The recipe also called for dill, but I decided to substitute cilantro to really give it a kick. I used my electric herb grinder to get it finely chopped. I also added smoke paprika and cayenne pepper. The result was a very spicy hummus dip which was just perfect for my tastes.

Since commercially prepared pita chips have way too much fat in them for me, I decided to make my own at home. I had never done this before but I was surprised at how easy it was. I just cut up some whole wheat pita bread and sprayed it with a little olive oil. I but a salt spice blend on it and then baked it in a 400 degree oven for just under ten minutes.
