Moles In Relation to Cancer

Categorized: Uncategorized | No comments

The reaction of people to moles depends on whether or not they are placed in areas that can add or enhance the appearance of the person, or if they are unsightly and unattractive. For those who have ugly moles, mole removal is usually the next course of action. But before any removal can be done, there’s a number of things that need to be understood.

First off, moles have to be checked if they are cancerous or not. To clarify, moles do not cause cancer, but they can turn cancerous, and when they do, that cancer can spread to other immediate areas. Moles are actually benign tumors that come from melanocytes, the cells that produce the pigment melanin. When the mole’s cells turn cancerous, that’s when the mole needs medical attention.

But how does one tell if a mole is cancerous or not?

There are a number of basic signs that can show a person if their mole is turning into a cancerous one. The most easy indicator is the appearance of the mole. Normally, moles are very uniform in appearance. They will have a consistent color, shape, and size. When a mole begins to look discolored, have an irregular shape, or is growing rapidly and uncontrollably, chances are something’s wrong. There are also a number of major signs that require immediate medical attention, such as bleeding, fluid excretion, hypersensitivity to touch, and pain.

When any or all of these occur, immediately go to the doctor. The doctor will get a piece of the mole for a biopsy, which is a procedure to find out if the mole is truly cancerous. If the test results turn out to be positive, then a mole removal procedure will be employed.

Depending on the severity of the case, a particular mole removal system will be used. It is important that the doctor remove all of the mole’s cells, as cells that are left behind can multiply again.

It is very important for people who have moles to make sure they are not cancerous first, before trying any other mole removal system on their own.
