A Bride’s Guide to Mermaid Wedding Dresses

Categorized: Uncategorized | No comments

Many brides who are planning their wedding this year are getting confused by the large amount of information and options online with regards to wedding dress choices.  There are many different types of designs, plus hundreds of wedding dress designers working in the bridal market – so whilst this can be overwhelming, it also means you have a lot of choice.

But, that means you may struggle to find the best wedding dress for you so we’ve started to put together some short and informative articles – and the first in our series is all about Mermaid Wedding Dresses – what they are, who they suit, and what wedding theme the best go with.

The idea behind Mermaid Wedding Dresses

Mermaid wedding dresses are so called because of the flare which is present at the bottom of the dress.  Some people compare it to looking like the tail of a fish, and this analogy becomes clearer when you study the rest of the dress.  Your waist is tapered and tight with the emphasis being on the female form.  With the material also clinging to your legs and the chest and hips being accentuated it really can flatter brides of a slim and slender body shape.

What type of body shape best goes with a Mermaid style wedding dress?

If you are quite slim then you will most likely look gorgeous in this type of design.  The fabric clings to the body very tight and will show off your curves.  Hour glass figures are known to look fantastic in mermaid wedding dresses, so if that doesn’t sound like you, you may want to reconsider this type of approach.

Will Mermaid wedding dresses suit a beach wedding?

Because of the romantic mermaid connotations, many brides think that a mermaid design will be a great choice for a beach wedding.  However, this isn’t always the case as they can be very impractical.  If you can imagine trying to walk delicately on hot sand in a figure hugging wedding dress with the flared lower half you will probably understand why we say that.

There are hundreds of cheap beach wedding dresses on the market you may want to consider as an alternative.  If you are pregnant we would also not recommend mermaid style.  Instead check out maternity wedding dresses and other options.

Whatever type of wedding dress you choose, ultimately you will have the final decision.  Try and choose something comfortable and stylish – and a dress you will cherish for the rest of your married life.
